2013 R56 low pressure light

Good morning all,

On the way to work this morning the low pressure light came on (off the interstate) sitting at a stop sign (came on again for a minute after I checked the oil level for a second).

I had recently replaced the filter and oil in my GP2 (running am manic map) and I verified that the oil level is ok.

I was running the car hard down interstate 35, with the scan gauge2, oil temp was 122 F (no codes), running at 85 mph.

Looking for suggestions, since I am 65 miles from home, should I chance it going home or have it towed to a mini dealer.

I would not take any chances with these car. Way to expensive to pay someone to fix them.

Thanks on the scan gauge2 i got from waymw oil pressure at idle is 38 (OPR).

Getting it towed

oil control valve solenoid possibly bad?

Dealer says car has codes relating to oil pressure, and the oil control valve solenoid is possibly bad (no oil leak), 85% sure and has seen this issue in the N18 engines.
BMW codes 3408 and 33FE, anyone have the P code equivalent?

Any others have a similar issue?

Reason I ask is to replace the solenoid requires 5 hours of labor and $250 for the part, not a cheap repair $1200.

They removed the oil filter and it looked good and oil level is good.

He said that they could replace the filter and oil and drive it to see if the light would come on again.
Suggestions?

The leak in the oil pressure control solenoid is a known problem, there is a TSB on it. Check for the "manufacturer communications" on NHTSA.gov. I don't know if MINI did an extended warranty on that part or not.

BMW codes 3408 = P15A1, Oil Pressure control valve: sticks when under maximum current (minimum oil pressure).

MEVD17.2-BN2000 for N55

Oil-pressure control valve, mechanical: hangs in fully energized position (minimum oil pressure).
The diagnostic function monitors the oil pressure.
Engine Oil Pressure Control, Mechanical, Solenoid Valve Sticking In Fully Energized Position (Minimum Oil Pressure)
The fault is recognized when the oil pressure remains at maximum level despite targeted application of voltage to the solenoid valve.
Potential problem source(s):- Oil pressure control valve defective
Oil pressure control valve defective.
- Replace oil pressure control valve

33FE = P15A0, Engine oil pressure control static: Engine oil pressure to low, backup mode.

N55
Engine oil pressure control, static: oil pressure too low, emergency operation
Engine Oil Pressure Control, Static, Switchover To Limp Home Operation Because Engine Oil Pressure Too Low in Map Operation
the oil pressure drops below a defined level in relation to oil temperature and engine speed.Potential problem source(s):- Defect in wiring harness between oil-pressure sensor and DME
Defective oil-pressure sensor- Oil pressure control valve
- Check wiring harness between oil-pressure sensor and DME
- Replace oil-pressure sensor
- Replace oil pressure control valve
- Replace oil pump-
