new here - P0304

Hi. . .
i'm Dave. . .

and i'm a mini-holic. . .

just bought my first Mini.
a 2011 Clubman S with only 67K miles on it.

so my learning curve is about to begin.
on the 35-40 mile ride home from the dealer all was great, until. . .

i had a stretch of straight road ahead of me. i decided to punch it and see a little of what it can do. it launched, and then balked.
the engine lite came on. it started running like crap. had a major miss, like it dropped a cylinder.
i motored like that for about a mile. it was consistent. it would idle. it would accelerate(all be it but slowly).
then i pulled over and called the dealer. it was just past their closing time so i got no answer.
i shut it off for a minute.

when restarted, it ran fine again. the engine lite is still on.
i now know it threw a P0304 code. a missfire on cylinder 4.

so my learning curve begins.
first thing i need to know is which end of this engine is number 1 and number 4. i assume number 2 & 3 will fall in line in sequence?

is there anywhere i can find maintenance manuals online?

as yet, the dealer has not called me back.
maybe that is for the best.

I'd be all over the dealer to make it run correctly.

thanx for the link. that will be a good start.

i declined any and all of the dealer warranties they offered.
the one that made me laff was the "no questions asked" policy. that would allow me to return the car for any reason at all within the first 48 hours after purchase.

and it would only cost an extra $500.

having some difficulty erasing the codes. getting in to clean bits today. tried my little Acton code scanner and it tells me the codes have been erased, but they haven't.

this scanner works fine on 2 Fords and a Suzuki.
is there a different procedure for a Mini?

Generally people are using Foxwell 510 scanner for BMW or the ECS Tuning equivalent Schwaben tool. There are some phone app based ones as well that will do the same thing. I have an old Acton scanner as well that doesn't do much with the MINI. I remember going to an indy mechanic and told him that my car didn't have any OBD scanning issues and he hooked it up to his device and showed me a list of things that I couldn't see. I bought the Schwaben tool to be prepared for future issues.
