Hey guys, any help appreciated with a 2008 Cooper S, automatic. Driving on the highway, revs started going up and car stopped accelerating. No check engine lite. Then car seemed to lock up in 5th car, some kind of limp mode, and was able to drive in that gear only. No gear changing possible. Came to a stop and it would display 5th gear on dash, and car slowly took off in 5th from a start. Reveres works fine though. Fault code in trans for 4F81-Neutral in "D". No faults codes in engine. Checked gear position switch and checks ok, swapped known good one and still no good. Fluid is ok, level was good, no pieces or chunks in tray or in screen on filter. Fluid was dark, but not burnt. Wires on valve body were ok, no broken wires. If i put it in manual mode, it wont move till high revs, and then it bucks violently. Will only get to 5 mph, barely moves. Anyone ever seen a car lose forward gears like that? Do bad valve bodies exhibit those symptoms?

never really got to the core issue. I just put a 2nd hand transmission in and it moved. I figure it was a hard internal part. Valve body was replaced with no difference, and I just gave up and decided not to diagnose it

I have same this problem

I replaced transmission with used one and the problem same no any change

delay shifting to 4th and by DS shifting fine

i was changed
- transmission used and TCM
- postion shifter switch
- even abs module

but still the problem same

Any someone solved ?
