Water

I see water leaks are a common problem amongst all generations of mini’s but I haven’t ran across the reason to fix it.
i have an 04 R53 that I just had barely notable rust fixed on the pinch weld under the door seal.
Thankfully I live in the desert and pretty much the only time my mini gets wet is when I wash it, but I want to fix this problem. I have no idea how water gets there, but on the seal, water gets into the channel made to attach the seal to the pinch weld, it has some gunky buildup there too.. The seals look good and I’ve taken them out and inspected for dry rot or tears. I can only assume these are the original seals and I guess the next step will be to replace them. I’ve had the car less than two months and it has a musty smell from the leaks.
how have others resolved these problems?
