If I could park this car in a volcano I would
2007 S... stick......I have a phone almost 200 cars in 30 years of driving I have never in my life experience anything like the Mini Cooper if running I love it better than anything else however it has spent the last two years pretty much being broken down I am now on my third fuel pump high pressure and second fuel pump in tank just because..... nobody seems to know what fails in these things fail I am trying to ascertain whether or not it is the actual pump that is failing or the cars ability to regulate the pump I have on average 100 pounds of pressure at idle, after I shut the car off and turn it on about 30 times it will suddenly jump back up to the proper 700 pounds of pressure need at idle and then next time I shut the car off that will disappear I assume that could have been a loose wire however seems to be getting voltage to the regulation system does the regulation system have the ability to completely delete all fuel pressure If not working properly or will it default to the 700 lb require at idle. With a more high-end Snap-on scan tool is there the ability to control and regulate fuel pressure at idle to determine whether or not the proper signal is being sent I find it hard to believe that 3 brand new fuel pumps have all been bad within miles of their first test ride
I think your best bet and the cheapest is to replace the fuel rail pressure sensor. My countryman, although N18 (2011) engine, was doing the same until i decided to replace that sucker...after that everything went well.
The one lesson I've learned is: Don't trust the connectors! Just b/c they feel like they connect, doesn't mean the inner pins are actually making, or staying, in contact. My coolant sensor plug was brand new, but the female pins were only making intermittent contact. Drove me crazy chasing that one down.
So, now, if anything else goes wrong, that's going to be the first thing I check!
Good luck!
