2013 Mini Base, 99K miles
After having a no start condition I started checking for timing chain failure.
I bought the tool set to lock the cams etc and wanted to check current position of the cams and crank first. (thanks MiniToBe)
I locked the flywheel using the special tool and ensured that both cam marking are on the top. (see photo)
All the pistons are at the same level (check with wooden dowels) The lobes on the intake and exhaust cams do not match what is in the book. Is the Bentley book off or is my timing off? Is the photo in the book from a N18 or N12?
I don’t see the secondary shaftin the photo from the book. It must be a different engine, but want to ask someone with more experience.
I can't see any slack in the chain or tensioner so I can't understand how it could be off this much. And if it was off, the lettering on the top wouldn’t show. I got around 100-105 in each cylinder when I did a compression check earlier. Thanks in advance for the help.
Hey Brother....lol...It seems I'm following you...The lopes position doesnt matter. what matters is the locking tool fitting nicely at the end. Bently is showing the N14 engine.
can you take a picture at where the locking tool would sit? mare the resolution is bit bigger, the photos are small
Here a photo or two.
The locking tool kit I bought fits the over the camshafts but it won't bolt onto the head. I'll have to buy a better one if I need the change the timing chain.
