Starter R & R: 2 questions

2004 R53, 155K. Undergoing a comprehensive DIY refresh. Considering replacing the starter. Two questions:

(1) I have reviewed various videos on starter removal. Currently my passenger-side axle is out. Should that make starter removal easier?

(2) I have experience with Denso starters in other cars. The only parts that fail in them are the solenoid contacts which can easily be replaced and cost $7.00. What about Mini OE starters which are typically Bosch?

Thanks.

Why? Has the starter failed? The MINI starters are not a high failure rate item and can last the life of the vehicle. If your existing starter is functioning properly, I’d focus on other known wear items to refresh.

Yes.
