Coolant leak in middle under car?

OK '09 JCW clubman leaking coolant as fast as I pour it in showing up near the middle of the car underneath, I haven't pulled anything off to look for it yet, but from what I read sounds like a thermostat issue or maybe water pipe? any opinions I guess is what I need to look for? OK I just poured some water through there and it is showing up on the ground near the right side of motor almost underneath the Intake

The water pipe is right below the intake and a probable source for such gross leakage.

can you see the water pipe after you take the intake off?

the heater core and hoses are in that neighborhood as well. If you pull the intake duct out you will get a much better view.

You can see it, although its nestled underneath the cylinder head.

You could also remove the Airbox to Turbo inlet and use a mirror but I'm not sure how much you could realistically see from this angle as you would be viewing it axially going from the thermostat to the water pump. There's also a bend in the tube where it mates with the water pump which can be seen in the image below. If there was a crack I would guess it would be there.

Removing the airbox is simple. The manifold is more complex. There is a tricky 10mm bolt underneath that is damn near impossible to see.

If the thermostat was leaking, there would probably be a pool of coolant on top of the transmission.

Nice picture Scottm2k. I've only imagined that side. In Scott's picture, the water pump pulley is the one half way between the top of the air housing and the pan, on the left side. Left of the pulley is the pump housing and left of that, coming out of the back of the housing is the water pipe. It comes out an inch or so, angles up and, even from this view, disappears into the rat's nest.

Mine started leaking at the pump as Scott surmised. Here's the thing about this pipe. It's not bolted in or clamped in. It's held in place between the water pump and the Jarvic heart Thermostat housing, just by it's length. It has O rings on each end. You have to pull the thermostat to replace it.

Here's what I'd do. Pull the airbox (see below) and then add more coolant. You should get a much better view of where it is leaking from.

If it's the pipe, remove the primary air intake, the air filter housing, the pipe connecting the filter housing to the turbo intake. Then you'll be able to see the thermostat and remove it. There's an opening on the lower back side that contains the other end of the water pipe. EDIT: I forgot about the clip. At the thermostat end there's a clip. There's another current thread about "water pipe tricky?" that has a picture which reminded me. The pipe can be pulled out at the thermostat end.

Hope and pray that when you pull it, it hasn't left a chunk of pipe in the water pump opening. If it's the thermostat housing, I'd seriously consider replacing the pipe as well anyway. I don't think it was that much more than the Jarvic and you'll have done 85% of the work.

Ok I just fired it up and it appears to be where the pipe meets the thermostat just squirting under pressure, ...............o-ring? broken pipe? broken housing?...........

Later this evening

I took it apart, and found good and bad news, Good it was just a bad deformed O-ring that didn't seal anymore at the the thermostat. Bad news I gently pulled out the the pipe to inspect it and the end that goes into the water pump was broken where the o-ring seats. So how do i get to the back of the water pump housing to inspect it?
