Heat Shield...Maybe?`
Heat Shield...Maybe?`
Well...
I was looking around in the engine as I am trying to find a little coolant leak (which I have found). While in there I feel a big chunk of sheet metal kicking around, loose between the engine and the cabin. Judging by the hand with lines suggesting not to touch it, I presume it's a heat shield that goes between the engine and the coolant reservoir. The bolts are still in the engine with the wee pieces of sheet metal around them.
I know that this has a purpose, the question is, do I need to replace it or can I run without it?
The vehicle is '04 with 168,000 miles on it. I became the owner a few weeks ago and am slowly going over the car.
Thanks,

Pictures would confirm but yes it sounds like the heat shield. The heat shield is there to help protect anything above the exhaust header from getting too hot, does anything more need to be said?????????
