Extended Warranty on 2012 Water Pumps
Extended Warranty on 2012 Water Pumps
I got a 2012 N16 Mini that what looks to be a water pump issue.
It was replaced at 45k miles under warranty 2 years ago. Now at 65k miles, I experienced the same symptoms again. My visual inspection tell me that coolant is leaking around the water pump area (passenger near wheel well)
Original warranty expired 8 months ago. However, I found this online: an extended warranty due to a MINI settlement https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-...on-settlement/
I looked at my vehicle again today and it looks like my first WP replacement was the black plastic version and not the metal.
I should have an easy case for warranty coverage, right? Want to equip myself with the right info before walking into the dealership

If the parts was replaced within two years with a MINI OE pump it is covered by a 2 year/unlimited mile warranty.
You may want to take a close look at the leak, a leaking water pipe could be mistaken for a water pump failure as they leak in near the same spot.
The class action filing due date was in October of 2016, so no dice there.

Interesting change of events. The coolant leak was discovered two nights ago was topped up then. I have not experienced any more leaks within 6 separate 20mi trips.
I monitored the coolant temp using Torque app and it warmed up appropriately in 5-10mins and maintained 210-220 temp range.
Heater gives off heat as usual.
Does the cooling system need bleeding after topping up from an empty reservoir?

I would re-bleed it, just to make sure there is no air in the system. Keep an eye on the leak location. I would switch over if you are out of warranty from the plastic to the metal, and there is a metal impeller version we sell also.

Ok, I reinspected. I do have the metal version of the WP.
I bled the system and after 200 mi of various driving, the coolant level has not dropped a bit.
I wonder if the lead could've been the fact that I refilled it with distilled water only when it was more than 1-2cup from empty and caused the mix to boil inside the system.
