hard starting/runniing

Have a new problem with 05S with 160K. It can be running great but when stopped for a short period it "may" start but the RPMs won't reach 1k, it hesitates without catching fires and dies. Repeated cranking solves nothing. Mechanic can't find a problem in the fuel system - won't replicate for him. Doesn't always do it, just occasionally but once I had to have it towed. Of course after it sits for say an hour or so it starts right up. Anyone else with this "occasional" problem? Could it be a vapor lock of some sort? Change plugs even if not needed? Fuel pump? Other tries? Thanks

Going to move this to the Gen1 Stock Problems/Issues area, should get better viewing.

Any CEL's? I am wondering if something with mass air flow and the throttle body.
