What are these wires to?

Hello everyone. My wife's '09 Clubman was smoking the other morning and I found out where the smoke was coming from. There is some wiring that was starting to cook. The covering cooked and became brittle and broke off. The wires are still pretty pliable, but I'd like to know why they cooked. I've looked at the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual, but that didn't help. Does anyone know what these wires are for? The bunch breaks off and goes to 2 plugs, but I don't know what they are for. Thanks.

I believe ones goes to the oxygen sensor on the downpipe, and the other is the oil pressure sensor on the front of the engine. I would get those covered up with some high temp flexible tubing and then zip tie them back away from the downpipe/ heat shroud.

Agree - would do it soon. Under that heat shroud is your exhaust manifold, so there is a lot of heat coming off of it. Inspect those wires pretty closely before you install the tubing.

Thanks for the info. I was able to see that the wires did go to the sensors. Now my questions is, why would these wire cook like that? Nothing has been done to hack the wiring. Maybe the connections were dirty and caused some type of short? Or did the wiring just get too hot next to the shroud? The wiring looks like it might need to be replaced at the connector so, are these connector available?
Thanks,
Walter
