2007 R56 MCS Oil Leak
 

Hi folks,

Newbie here, so I apologize if this has been covered or is in the wrong place (I googled the crap out of it, and couldn't find an answer).

Bought myself a 2007 Cooper S a few months ago. No known issues, 1 owner car, currently has 83k miles. In the last 5k miles I've had to add oil twice, and I've been seeing some alarmingly large oil spots. I've done the research, and can definitely eliminate some of the common causes - it's not the turbo oil feed line, oil heat exchanger, front main seal, or oil filter housing. Based on how extensive the oil coverage is, my guess is that there is more than one leak. I know the turbo oil return line is leaking, and I'm 75% sure the oil pan gasket is leaking, but I also know based on where the oil congregates and drips that those are supplemental causes. I'm thinking rear main seal, or something else on the back of the motor. So my question is, based on the photos, does anyone have any experience with this type of leak, and what would you replace first? I have the capability to do just about anything short of the rear main seal, does anyone know what it would cost (approximately, I live outside Washington DC) a mechanic to do it?

So step 0 is clean the area dry and watch the suspected leak areas.

also, make sure the oil filter cap is tight (25Nm). clean the turbo oil feed line. clean/check oil pressure sensor. continue to monitor the oil and never run low.

I think it's the oil return line at the bottom of the turbo. Also, you'll have to add oil just about every time you fill up your gas tank. #N14lyfe

I would guarantee that that leak is the oil filter housing to block seal. The turbo oil line doesn't look that clean also. We see that leak all the time at the bottom of the housing, and it's hard to see till you have it all removed. My 07 r56 had a similar oil leak and it was due to one of the timing chain guide bearing bolts coming loose. There are 3, and it was the top one. You had to remove the motor mount on that side to get to it.
