I am trying to figure out why my wife's 08 convertible shakes like a MFer when idling. I am suspecting one of the engine mounts is shot but the ones I see look ok (from what I can see). Can someone point out where the mounts are on this car? I think I am missing some.
Three mounts; one passenger side in line with the valve cover gasket, one on the bottom center behind the oil pan, and one on the transmission. Be sure the tower bolt on the passenger side mount is tight and then check the bottom or "dogbone' mount. Shine a light from the back side and if you see any light coming through the black rubber section the mount is no good.
you can see if from the front. Its roughly centered and has two large bolts holding it on. Look for the big circular piece of rubber. You car has the urethane top mount, right? So it may have a lower one too. In that case look for a nice piece of machined aluminum. Might say BSH on it.
Anyone have a pic of the lower mount on the car, I can't seem to locate it.
This is what the lower engine mount looks like. Its rear portion is connected to the subframe with a bolt that runs vertically, then another bolt in the forward portion runs horizontally, connecting it to a bracket mounted to the back of the oil pan.
The one in the post by Scudder44 is similar, but not the correct one for your car.
