Oil drain plug leaking

i have a 2008 clubman. I just done an oil change. I noticed the drain plug had been way over tightened. Anyhow now I have a drip. I replaced the crush washer when changing oil. Will a new plug help? If not any other solutions?
thnk you
Shane

Sometimes the crush washer can have a defect or a crack causing a leak. Try replacing with a new crush washer first.

Get a new drain plug and crush ring from dealer. The overtightening could have marred the surface of the pan and created an inability to seal. Knock the spurs down with a file. I always have a spare in the glovebox in case I have a service problem when traveling.

If all else fails you can buy a Fumoto or similar drain plug and use some sealant to keep it from leaking. Then you don't have to remove it.

Try a new drain plug & crush washer. DON'T use a Fumoto valve on your car. On your engine it will be pointing straight down waiting to be ripped off.

Fumoto works great on R53 - it's pointing rearward. If it's pointing downward in later models, would be a bad idea.

I love my Fumoto on my R53 and my F250 (where it points downward but protected and I don't go offroading).

Fumoto comments 110% correct .. good for GEN1 ... BAD for GEN2

if a new metal seal continues to leak, consider a fibre one .... any decent autopart store can provide a seal in the same size in fibre and it will work just fine. Being a lil softer, you MIGHT get the drip stopped. To try will only cost about a buck.

The bung on my 79 dripped when I bought it, so I started using a fibre seal (not included in the Mini design) and have had no drips or other problems (in this area) since.

A proper size copper crush washer is soft enough to conform to mating surface. PLEASE do not use a fiber one- trouble waiting to happen. A new plug will have fresh threads and a new sealing ring will do the job.
An easy fix for YOU!!

You can also get a topsider fluid extractor. You can extract the oil via dipstick and not touch the drain plug for your oil changes.

Topsider Recommendation?

Have you used a topsider that you would recommend? Tried a MityVac 7201 and it sucked out about a quart before it gave up....returned it.

The brand is Topsider. Pretty much all steel construction. The one I got is blue and you can screw off the hand pump and suction hose and cap them when done for easy recycling
