Buzzsaw Noise from engine rpm

This is on a regular R56 2009, hearing a new weird engine noise now haha.

It sounds like a buzzsaw almost but it’s not extremely loud from the cabin at least but definitely noticeable. It’s not really a rattle but more of a high speed buzzsaw. It’s tied to engine RPM for how loud it gets.

Not sure what it can be? I am due for a water pump replacement this week. Car has 113k miles and I’m a new owner to it. Car just had it’s transmission replaced. But the noise happens on park or when I’m driving.

Okay I think I know what it is. I recently just had my serpentine belt and pulley replaced. I think they did something wrong because this noise is new.

The serp belt spins proportionally to engine rpm so this has to be it. Maybe the new pulley is bad or something.

Does the noise change (listening from inside the cabin) when you try different HVAC configurations? I hear a real faint buzz saw sound when I have the AC on. Its as if the HVAC mixing door opens and lets more “noise” in if that makes sense.

If i turn the AC off the door moves and the noise goes away.

The friction wheel may be giving up the ghost.

With the car off, try to pull the tab on the friction wheel which disengages it, start the car and see if the noise goes away. If so, then you'll need a friction wheel, it's recommended to replace the water pump wheel at the same time, as their wear components.

HVAC doesn't seem to make a difference.

So I need to get 11287598833 replaced as well?

Just had the belt tensioner pulley and belt itself replaced.

I would start with disengaging the friction wheel and seeing if the noise goes away, if so then yes.

We've got them in stock as well.

Friction Wheel
