Trifecta on a 2008 Clubman S - 5E57 and 6053 codes
Greetings Mini Afficionado's from sunny Arizona...my daughter decided to buy a 2008 Mini Clubman S with 87K miles off ebay without my knowledge. She just showed up with it at the house. The Clubman displays what is known as a "trifecta" ABS/DSC/Brake lights are on and she also gets the Tire Pressure light on. The TPMS warning - states "INACTIVE" on the dash. The trifects lights do come on once every 2 or 3 ignition cycles - they don"t stay on continuously. The TPMS light, however, is continous. If you let the car stay for approximately 1 hour, the lights are off, then at next start, they come on. I have scanned the codes with 3 different scanner - Launch X431PRO, Xtools PRO and a Foxwell NT644 - they all come up with the same errors. 5E57 for the DSC unit (internal failure) and 604E and 6053 for the Tire Pressure Module...Yes, I did read about the common ABS sensor problems, but this does not seem to be related. I have removed and cleaned both front sensor including the hub and fully charged and load tested the battery. I have also ran live data on the ABS sensors while the car was driving - they are all functional. Has anyone experienced these codes before? Could it be a bad DSC Module? Any input is greatly appreciated - I am not a PRO, but have tinkered with cars for the last 20 years and do have access to some various scanners.
Thanks!
Thanks!
The TPMS issues usually are associated with dead batteries or missing sensors in the tires. I had this intermittent issue with my old tires with TPMS that were old. I changed to new wheels and tires that don't have TPMS in them and now the light just stays on.
As for your other issues, I'd start with the DSC unit if all of the sensors seem to be in order. Take it to an indy Mini/BMW shop with a good reputation to have it checked out. They often have dealt with the esoteric problems these cars get with age that the dealers don't see as often. The cost of doing a check at a shop vs. guessing in your own garage is worth it in my opinion.
