Cooper S auto tranny shifting differently after Mini Dealer repairs...

Our 2010 Mini Cooper S (auto) was at the Dealer for timing chain replacement as well as cracked Valve Cover and vacuum line replacement.

The rep mentioned in passing that they did a software update.

I noticed on the drive home that the tranny was holding onto the gear longer before upshifting than I noticed before. Almost like it was in Sport Mode. I had to manually use the paddle shifters to get into 6th gear on the highway.

I'm guessing the software update had something to do with it, but I'd rather not be at higher RPMs when on the highway. Are they allowing for higher shift points in order to lessen the use of the turbo?

Anyone else notice this type of thing? Thanks!

The trans adaptations might have been reset and your transmission is shifting with the default settings until it re-learns your driving style.

Did they cover the chain replacement? I also had a software issue with my car during a service. The tech admitted that the update got interrupted. They reinstalled software another visit while i got my free donuts and car wash. All better. Keep an eye on it and don't be afraid to ask for them to double check it in the next few weeks if things don't improve.

Does the R56 learns how you drive and the transmission adopts to your driving style? I did not see anything like this mentioned in the manual.

No they didn't cover it. That repair and the Valve Cover and hoses came to $3100. They ended up taking off $600 when I complained that the Timing chain was replaced 3 years ago, so I was just beyond the warranty.

The timing chain has been replaced three times now, with 64k on the odometer.

As for the software, thanks, I'll keep my eye on it.

Keep us updated.

I also have a delay on my auto transmission. Do you hear any whining/humming sound?
