Sorry, that would help. '09 JCW with 85K. I just walnut blasted the valves about 5K ago. After initial startup it runs totally fine.

i'm not a big fan of walnut blasting because if not cleaned right, it can cause some issues...can you inspect the injectors, and plugs. make sure sure they're tight.

It ran fantastic for months after I cleaned. Assuming you mean fuel injectors/plugs? Is there a way to do that without ripping everything out to get at them?

you could probably squeeze your hand after you take out the diverter and the vent valve...or run injector cleaner for now since you dont have a check engine light.

I'll try cleaner first. I did order some spark plugs, it's close to due by their schedule anyway. Thanks

Well, tried cleaner, new plugs. The old ones did look done. Same issue, same codes. Rough start, but then runs great. Odd that it's the same 2 cylinders.

Hummm...i think it is time to get back to the basics and go from there.

We know you have spark. Check the compression (wet and dry).

In my case i one had a leaking injector and didnt even have codes...looking through the hole, the cylinder was flooded...replaced and was good to go.

So check compression to make sure we have the right ingredient for a healthy ignition.

Pardon my ignorance, but wet and dry? Is a compression tester a rentable tool, maybe autozone?

Leaky injector is an interesting thought, maybe 2? Could explain a rough start that smooths once excess fuel burns?

Maybe pull plugs and look inside for petrol first?

Wet is when you add some oil through the spark plug hole to better seal the rings. Dry is the without oil.

Compression tool is cheap. Buy one from harborfrieght. Not sure if autozone rents it out. Maybe.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get into this yet, but it went to reduced power mode this am. I pulled the codes and it was all the same, plus this. Maybe injectors 4/2 bad? Does this help?

Cylinder injection shutdown: Low pressure in the high pressure system
Code: 002880

sometimes a failing HPFP is the culprit and it is a known issue. check with the dealer if it still covered under factory warranty or something. can you get a live data reading on the fuel pressure?

Ouch, hope not. I have the Carly app, I think it can read that real time. As far as things that may relate to fuel, looking at app I see:

Filtered rail pressure value (absolute pressure MPa)

Pressure before throttle (psi)

Target pressure high pressure system (MPa)

Here's what I got:

Filtered rail pressure value (absolute pressure MPa) 5.28

Pressure before throttle (psi) 14.02

Target pressure high pressure system (MPa) 5.41

That's at idle, it does go up a little if I raise the revs.

Normal to go up when you rev it...but it should be 7ish at idle.

It looks like the HPFP is covered 10 years/120K miles. I made an appointment to have the dealer check it out tomorrow, we'll see.
