How to handle wiring when removing hatch?

Hi, first time here. I have a ton of rust in the hatch of my r53. i decided replacing it may be easier than the rust repair and found a replacement. I pulled the grommets out of the main harness at the roof going into the hatch and i dont see any plugs!? it looks like the wiring in solid all the way to their destinations making this a huge PIA and making me wonder if rust repair is the way to go (the water leaks have been found and addressed). Am I missing something? is there a big plug on the inside under the headliner or something? Im hoping there is a simple main plug somewhere. Sorry of this has been addressed somewhere, certainly someone has replaced a hatch on these, ive spent like an hour on the internet and here and can find nothing. Thanks for any help-
