Large Clunk when decelerating and re-accelerating

I just purchased a used 2004 Mini base model that has over 149K miles that the previous owner replaced both front axles as well as motor mounts. Actually there was a lot of work done. When I drove it for the first time with real speed, I heard and felt a sizable clunk when I let off the gas and especially if I re-accelerate. It seems to happen when the torque or momentum of the engine is changed, I can feather the acceleration to minimize it or even eliminate it for that moment. Also there is a vibration when I accelerate until I settle at a speed. What do you think? Seems like axles issue, but they are supposed to be new.

Have you checked the dog bone motor mount that is under the motor and then also the passenger side mount accessed via the hood?

Second that, check or replace the torsion mount between engine and oil sump area under passenger side of engine.

Looks like just the sort of bone that Lectronimo (the robot dog in the Jetsons) would want.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I finally lifted the car today and the bottom motor mount looks fine, nice and tight. I had the car in gear and rocked the front wheels and found about 4 inches of travel, back and forward, before the opposite side wheel engages, might be the clunk I am feeling and hearing. Is that normal? Seems sloppy to me. When out of gear wheels spend freely and without any play in them at all.
