Need help troubleshooting clutch

I recently had my 07 r56 apart for timing chain and ended up having to pull the tranny because some idiot had worked on it before evidently, and reinstalled flywheel wrong (yes I know there is a guide pin, not sure how they managed to smash it into the back of the flywheel and not notice the guide hole was open). So now it's all back together and engine runs fine, but now it won't move when you let out on clutch.

Ive never worked on a clutch before but I centered it with a socket which I felt good about but didn't realize I should tighten the pressure plate 1/4 turn at a time and just tightened them down all the way one at a time in a star pattern. Could this be the prob or do I just need to bleed the clutch?

It it felt as though it was in gear and the clutch pedal itself felt like normal but when I released the clutch it was as though I still had the clutch depressed and the car doesn't move. Any help would be appreciated before I take it all back apart

Sorry, your post is a bit confusing. You can actually get it into gear?

Yeah sorry about that, it's hard trying to explain something your not real familiar with. You can sit in the car with it running and shift into any gear fine with no grinding noise so I would assume the clutch is engaged. Let out on the clutch however, and your still sitting still.

after I had to pull the flywheel, I just put it back in the way I took it out. Had no idea about resetting the spring for the self adjusting clutch, or the importance of tightening pressure plate down evenly, that part was omitted from the tutorial I was using. Pulled the axles and sub frame yesterday after work and will drop tranny this evening. Hopefully I can borrow the pressure plate tool from AutoZone and just do it according to the Bentley Mannual and be done with it

You say "the clutch pedal itself felt like normal". Is there any clutch pedal "play" before you feel the clutch activate? If so, how much? If not, the clutch is probably always "released" --- like the linkage is mis-adjusted, or the clutch and / or linkage was assembled incorrectly.

Note that my terminology considers "released" to be when the pedal is pushed and power to the tranny is interrupted. Normal clutch operation dis-engages the engine from the tranny when the pedal is pushed.

I say like normal because it just felt like it did before I took the transmission off and it always shifted great. I thought it was possibly that I wasn't aware of resetting the spring on the self adjusting clutch but now that I've pulled it back out it is a cheap Valeo clutch and doesn't appear to be self adjusting.

I didnt clean lean the pressure plate and flywheel surfaces or tighten pp slowly and evenly last time so I'm going to start with that and see where that gets me. If that doesn't work then I think your right, it must be between the pedal and slave cylinder somewhere, keeping the slave pressured up

Sounds like you need to bleed the slave cylinder. Easy to do and will save you alot of time from taking everything apart again. Keep this thread updated so we can all learn from this. Good luck.

Turned out clutch was fine, I had separated the joint inside the boot on the drivers side cv axle. With the car on jack stands and in first gear I could look under and see the axle turning out of the gearbox but once any resistance was applied to the wheels the axle would just spin inside the boot. New axle and it was good to go
