My right Xenon went out

My windshield just got its first crack, and now my passenger side headlight went out. I was driving down the road, and noticed that the light seemed to be flickering a bit. A minute later, it went out. I'll have to call MINI on monday and make an appointment. I hope they can fit me in soon, cuz I dont feel comfortable driving around with just one headlight.

And the Xenon replacement bulb (not the whole light) cost was $168.00. There's lower priced replacements. How many miles does your car have?

Its a 2004 with only 5000 miles on it. Its gotta be covered under warranty, theres no way they could charge me for it. I wonder if this has happened to anyone else so quickly?

Yes it has happened before. Does the light work at all? Does it have a hard time turning on? If it works on and off it might be the ignitor for the Xenon and not the bulb. If it is completely off and doesn't turn on that would be better than if it goes on and off. Take it to the dealer, the repair is covered under warranty if you have not done any upgrades to your electrical wiring that might interfere with your lights.

I had ignition system upgrades, aftermarket alarm system and upgraded stereo that needed to be disabled (removed) to do the troubleshooting for my passenger light that would not turn on each morning. Took about four trips to the dealership to fix since after a few tries the light would come on and start working OK but then each morning it would not turn on. My fix came by replacing the entire front light housing. Wiring remained the same.

A bulb either works or it doesn't. It sounds like a grounding problem to me. Report back on the cause of flickering. Those darn HID Xenon bulbs are expensive though!

I broke a Xenon bulb by "accident" one day while upgrading my highbeams (don't ask). I told the dealership that all of a sudden the light no longer came on. They looked at it and it was magically cracked . They said that they hardly ever fail and replaced it under warrenty. To give you some idea of how often these bulbs fail, the bulb they had at the dealership was there for over 190 days!

The cost they qouted me was somewhere around $190 for ONE bulb. When ever you are ready to replaced it I would order the bulb from Classic MINI in Ohio (listed in the sponsor directory). They rountinly give you a nice discount on OEM parts if you mention North American Motoring to them. This is where I get most of the parts that I need. Hope this helps.

This a bit off thread, but what is the beam pattern on most folks xenons?
I can see way up to the right, not quite as far up the left, but dark right in front, sort of a v shape, with the bottom of the v being right in front of me.
I would think that there should be more light right in front.
But I do like seeing up the shoulders and into the ditches,as there are critters galore lurking there getting ready to go for the dash across the road.

My '05 is like this:

_____/------ (dotted lines should be a little higher)

It would be nice to have a straight pattern, but we don't want to blind oncoming drivers

The right front head light on my 2002 MCS has turned pink in color, is this typical when the bulb fails? or is the problem beyond the bulb?

This is by design and made to maximize the light you see while not blinding those in oncoming traffic. Halogen bulbs are set the same way, but due to the weaker and more dispersed light, it's hard to tell. The xenons are so direct and bright in their projection, it's simply easy to see the exact design.

The dealership admitted fault, and theyre going to replace the entire headlamp assembly this time. They also got a whole bunch of gunk on the hood, which they have to wetsand out. They ALSO have to replace the windshield AGAIN because they messed that up as well. Good job Lauderdale MINI.

This is how mine was for several months then it got worse. Every morning it would not turn on but later after working the switch for awhile it would come on.

It really ought to work the first time not needing to be coaxed into working so if it is a daily problem then report it to your service dept.

I did have some trouble reproducing the bad light since once it turned on it would work OK until the next morning. Took four trips to correct the problem.
