Strange a/c problem

My wife's 2008 r52 is having an a/c problem. If the temperature is 85 or less outside it seems to blow cold. Anything above 85 and it does not cool and the compressor clutch seems to be cycling more often. Every 10 seconds or so. Any suggestion as what to look for or check?

Moving you to the Stock Problems/Issues as your basic AC is no different than all the other Gen1 models.

If you have not already done so, I suggest you check out the second Sticky Thread at the Top of that section, Low Speed Fan Resistor. Also are you mechanically inclined as below is a good video on how a car AC works.

Fan comes on when a/c is turned on. I don't think that is the problem. I could be wrong.

I suggest that the pressures be tested.

You could be under or overcharged with freon. Have you had anyone add refrigerant lately?

There's a safety switch that will shut off the AC if the pressure gets too high or low. If you're overcharged, in hot weather your AC pressure will get too high. The safety switch will cut off your AC at that point. Then your pressure fallls back into the safe range and it turns back on. This is my best guess, but I don't know the exact design of the pressure cutout switch to give you better guess.
