Got P2885 error code but no power loss?

Hi guys,

A few days ago, I was cruising on the highway in 6th gear and I punched the throttle without a downshift to pass a few cars at around 70 mph and take my exit. The half-power engine light came on during this maneuver. The strange thing is I did not feel any power loss at all so I would have never noticed that there was an issue if the light had not come on. My place is only a mile away from the exit so I drove the car normal and checked the error code once I got home. I am getting the dreaded P2885 code, which is a boost related error code that has been reported on here many times. I went through those threads carefully but I think my situation is a bit different since I did not feel the power loss at all after the light came on. Could this be a sign of a sensor going bad somewhere? Obviously I will have to do some more investigation but I wanted to see if anyone ever experienced a similar issue before. I have not driven the car since then as I usually ride around my motorcycle most of the time and I only drive the car when I need to go grocery shopping once a week or so.

To provide a little info about the car, it's an 07 R56 with 86K miles. The engine oil has been changed religiously every 3K miles or less. I am still on the original turbo and I never touched the diverter valve. I am running the Alta Access Port Stage 1 tune with a Forge intercooler and Akrapovic down pipe. I am not seeing any oil smoke coming out of the tail pipe. I should also mention that the weather was very hot on the day I experienced the issue so perhaps the combination of hot ambient temperature and the engine tune might have been responsible as well?

P2885 - Boost Pressure Control Deviation, plausibility

Just a few thoughts, even though you said you didn't feel any change: I've seen this code thrown with some individuals who ended up needing to do a carbon clean up. Info on that here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...n_Cleaning.htm. This is also something you'll want to do about every 50k on your MINI to ensure you're fully utilizing its potential.

I'd also recommend checking every boost pipe and vacuum pipe that you can to rule out a possible vacuum leak. You can do a smoke test to quickly find a leak - if there is one. I'd possibly test the wastegate and wastegate vacuum actuator. Check your turbo seals as well. You can follow the instructions in this tech article here: Mini R56 Testing the Engine Turbocharger Wastegate | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I will start from the usual suspects and go from there. I will post an update after I have a better idea about what might be the issue.
