09 Base R56 Water Pump Replacement

I have a coolant leak from the rear of my engine and I believe that its from my water pump. Where can I find a "how to" to do this myself? I've tried looking and haven't seen any, and I'm not sure if I'm looking correctly. I'm also looking for some advise on determining if it is my water pump, or thermostat that is leaking? If it helps I just recently rolled over 90,000 miles.

Rear of engine to me would indicate thermostat housing, or another source. Water pump would be a leak near the right front wheel, from what I know.

If the leak is on the thermostatic housing side you will have pools of water on top of the transmission. If it is the pump then signs of leaking will be at the front end, that is the oposite side of the engine bay. Pelican parts have how to's for both. Youtube search is also a good idea. If either is leaking, while you have the coolant drained you might as well do them both at the same time because they are both prone to fail. Both are tight access, especially the rear T Housing connection clip but it is doable as DIY and saving you hundreds of cash units.

Check on top of the transmission first for the thermostat. The main water pump will leak on the passenger side towards the rear:

Here is all the info and DIY. On the Base model you dont have a turbo so you dont have the aux water pump.

Thank you all so much for the great information. The leak it towards the middle of the engine towards the back of the motor. I'm going to tackle the thermostat first. A friend of mine is a fleet manager of a private ambulance service and said I could borrow some of his tools. I'll crawl under my car better tonight and check the top of the transmission. I found a youtube of the waterpump this morning and it is way too involved for me to do so I'm leaving it for the shop.
