Shifter issue

2003 mini auto trans shifter stuck in park, when key is on or running. Disconnect battery shifter moves with easy. Checked online tried everything I could nothing helped. Any help would be great

Moving you to the Stock Problems/Issues area.

There is an interlock that must release when you disconnect the battery. You have R50 or a R53? How many miles on the car?

Yes when you press down on the brake pedal it releases. Check the sensors near the brake pedal.
