Need to replace the turbo (R55 JCW 2012)... Suggestions?
So, I was up in the high Sierra's when my turbo decided to take a dump on me. Doesn't engage or operate anymore. Engine warning light and everything. Completely obvious I have no air pressure anymore as I'm at almost 10,000 altitude and suddenly my car acts like a slug in performance. Typical when your air pressure to the throttle body gets "thin air" (just like an airplane but without the mixture control!)
Anyway, managed to get towed over the crest and sort of glide back down the other side until the altitude was more in line with what the car could deal with. now I have a "classic" performing car on the road.
So now that I have to pull the turbo and replace it (including cleaning out whater might have broken, etc) I wanted to know if I should just go with the stock OEM turbo replacement or spend a few extra dollars looking at ported/polished turbos, K03/K04 hybrids, etc. I'm not trying to get a lot more out of the car (its at 130k, I want it to last) but since I'm spending the money and labor time, I wanted to deal with a change now...
Suggestions?

2012 Clubman JCW (N14 engine, manual transmission), 139k miles on it so far, replaced timing chain at 75k, clutch at 60k, water thermostat at 120k.

Oem / borge warner or Frakenturbo are the two most popular options.

They make other turbos but not a direct fit.

Just looked into this and since your looking to replace I suggest going with and OEM upgrade which would be reliable, and the one I saw on M7 site just went on sale! Borg Warner with 41mm compressor. Send in your old turbo and get $300 refund too!
This option is an UPGRADE and is OEM fitment, cant beat this!
