O2 Sensor not fluctuating?

Just recently whenever I accelerate hard, my car starts sputtering and one of my friends said it spits a little dark smoke. I plugged in one of those fancy OBD2 scanners and it says that my pre-cat O2 sensor is at 0.46v and doesn't move at all. Will getting a new O2 sensor fix my sputtering problem or is it something else?

Well, if the O2 sensor isn't working, why not replace it first and find out? A generic will work fine.

I'd rather buy from NAPA or some local parts source, as you won't save a ton on a generic from Ebay. But yes, that will work, as long as it's compatible. Online parts catalogs can help you select the right one.

Yes you have to watch on the other sites universals as some will not work and you will still have a CEL. Also other places have Gen 1 MINIs and Gen 2 MINIs mixed up.

For a 2013 Cooper S Its oem 11787576673 for the front and 11787548961 for the rear. Bank 1 is usually the front and bank 2 is usually the rear. Check the connections and the wires first as things fly up front the road and can damage the wires.

I used this socket for the front and rear, makes the front an easy job.

Its linked in that thread linked also.

Thank you for the help, but do you think that a bad o2 sensor would cause the car to sputter?

Most of the time it will cause a drop in MPG followed a lean CEL code. I have not driven on one really long to see if it will cause a misfire. If you are getting smoke then its either dumping too much fuel at once or you have an oil leak into the turbo. Is it blue smoke or just that dark smoke and only at start up? If it's just on full pulls you might have a extra fuel from a overlean run due to the o2 sensor. Did you have a drop in MPG?
