good afternoon I'm new to the mini cooper community. i bought a 2004 mini cooper automatic.

now my problem is the car is stuck in park. the button for the gear release doesn't work. figured out that the stalk/stick thats attached to is broken. and i can't grab or pull it out as it is inside the shifter barrel. any help would be appreciated. I've searched and came up empty handed.

any way to disassembly the shifter area to push/pull from underside? or will it require a whole new assembly?

Unfortunately you bought a base model with the dreaded CVT transmission. It may very well be dead. Good luck.

I am going to move the thread to the the Stock Problems/Issues folder here in Gen 1. Have you searched that folder?

 

I'd sure suspect a dead CVT gear box. It is known for bad behavior.
Did you use KeePass to generate that killer screen name?
