Oil Pressure Light/TC Tensioner Replacement
Oil Pressure Light/TC Tensioner Replacement
So I'm back in the Mini game after sadly parting with my 09 JCW almost 2 years ago. First borns change everything!
Anyhoot, I bought an 06 S about 3 weeks ago so I could have another toy, and because my wife is amazing. It's in great shape for a 11 year old car. 155k on the odometer, well maintained.
So last week I noticed what I immediately diagnosed as timing chain rattle. Went away with a bit of throttle. Yep, tensioner. So I stopped driving it and waited till this weekend to replace the tensioner. After I replaced the tensioner, started her up, and there it was, the same noise. Oh no.
So I went to get gas cause it was on E and part of me was hoping that maybe it just needs to build some oil pressure. Roll the windows down and hit the road, pull into the gas station and hop out. Chain rattle greatly diminished. Sweet! Fill her up and hop back in. Flip the A/C on, noise is back. No, no, no. Now I'm completely confused.
Flip the A/C off, almost no noise.
So I head home, hit the driveway, stop the car and the oil light comes on. Goes off. Comes on. Continues this cycle as long as it's at idle. Give it a bit of gas and light goes away. So now I'm thinking the worst.
Couple tidbits about the car, oil was changed at dealer before I bought it, along with the oil pan gasket.
I'm lost. Any advice/help would be huge.

the oil senders go out, so it might need one of them. Also put full synthetic and a new filter, as they most likely only changed the oil and the filter is shot. 5/30 or 10/30 or fourty, if you are in a hot climate. I really like Castrol Edge oil!
