Here in the UK if you post anything about a different sound from your engine everyone jumps to the "timing chain tensioner" conclusion.

So here's your challenge, can anyone post a video of a PERFECTLY RUNNING N14 engine?

I tried this on a few facebook groups and no one dared to post, which makes me think the N14 is just a noisy engine and everyone saying "timing chain tensioer" is full of crap.

 

it's noisy but it is a DI engine so it's gonna be

 

I have 116,000 miles on my R56 N14 Timing chain is fine as are the chain guides all in good shape...
I change the oil every 2,500 miles plugs every 6-10,000 miles...
I have all upgrades CAI, FMIC no cats all delete noise maker etc...just changed the oil housing gasket's just decoked the valves...no rattle..but still blows blue smoke
