spark plug wires

So one of my wires just blew apart. The prior owner did a coil and wire upgrade (can't tell what brand other than everything is red).

Are the coil boots the same size as stock so that I can use regular wires until I sort it out?

Thanks

Regards,
Jerry

I haven't done tons of research but I've never heard of an aftermarket coil pack that wouldn't work with the stock wires, so you should be good.

If the wires are red they are either MSD (good stuff) or just generic CRAPPO.

Found a set of black 7mm silicone wires at Pep Boys. Since local, no shipping. $27. After researching on here, not sure the MSD wires make much difference even though the car has mods that are slightly above a JCW level. It has the red coil pack, (with some corrosion on the terminal just like stock!), so possibly MSD. Prior owner did lots of mods and he did everything 1st class.

Pulled the plug to inspect. Looked slightly worn at the electrode "finger", but the Iridium plug was a very nice tan. NGK 7 heat range.

Replaced plug, replaced just the bad wire (for now) and she fired right up! Runs fine, need to get a few cycles to clear the SES light, or I will reset with my BMW Peake code reader.

Thanks for all the quick responses here.

Regards,
Jerry

It sounds like you have an MSD system and you should replace all your wires with the MSD product (yes, from my experience you will feel it if you have mods) . Use some emery paper on the coil post an liberally swab them with dielectric grease. If you remove the coil, set some rubber washers (grommets are good) underneath to elimanate vibrations. Your hold bolts for the coil are unique to MSD and you MUST be very careful torquing these down so you don't shatter the valve cover. I ran this combo in my genI car and never had any problems and it ran like a DEMON TRAIN.
