How to Erase Codes?

So I have literally never been able to erase codes on my Mini. Bluetooth scanner, WiFi scanner, even a $100 HFT scanner. I hit "Erase Codes" and it says "cannot connect" or something along those lines. I can read codes no problem though. The HFT scanner says "turn engine off with key on" tired with the car in accessory mode, still no dice. What am I doing wrong? Do I need a special BMW scanner or something?

I was able to erase codes with either my old plug in OBD scanner Actron brand or with a free app on my phone and a cheap Amazon plug in OBD dongle. This was a 2011 S Countryman. Only code that would not go would be one that is still faulting. Neither of those devices would see the MINI specific codes that need a dealer or qualified indy shop reader to see.

So what kind of codes are showing that wont go?

O2 Heater Sensor 2 (or whatever one you get with a catless DP). Not a MINI specific code but I had my tune turned off for a bit and it came up. Turned my tune back on and drove 30 miles, didn't go away. Trying to turn it off with my scanner.

I actually figured it out. Turns out when you turn the engine off you're not in accessory mode. Accessory mode is key in, press engine start but don't press the clutch.

But not 2 of my monitors aren't ready and I need an inspection lol. NY allows one not ready, and the other one besides O2 not ready is Evap, which should go away in a few drive cycles or when I fill up/

Try disconnecting the battery for a minute or so --- negative terminal. That's supposed to clear codes that don't recur. Disadvantage is, you gotta reset the clock and maybe radio stations too.
