A/C Expansion Valve
A/C Expansion Valve
So I think the A/C Expansion valve is behind/inside the center climate control unit in and under the dash. How do you get that assembly out is there a write up on it?
Is there a way to replace the expansion valve w/o pulling the unit.
I have all the AC work needed done but that part. I found a dead link on this forum (no luck there).
I could try to flush and flush again but I don't want to have to take it apart and evacuate again when that does not work. Have the valve just not sure how to go about taking it apart to get to it. Other than get the tools and start exploring.
2003 Mini Cooper S manual
New compressor
New Condenser
New Dryer
Pressure flushed with proper solvent from and out of hoses that attach to compressor
New Belt
New Idler pulley
New Belt tensioner
Cheers all and thanks...

It is under the dash, but most of the work is from the engine compartment side. You do not have to remove the dash. The bentleyvmanual covers the whole thing.
Briefly,
Disconnect battery, remove air filter housing, ECU, etc.
You should have already recovered refrigerant.
Unscrew two AC from metal block on engine side of firewall.
Remove two more screws holding metal block to expansion valve
Working under dash, remove plastic trim that covers the heater core and AC lines. One screw is really hidden!
Reach under dash and loosen mounting plate (you loosened screws already) and free up
The expansion valve. Push it a little towards the front of the car makes it easier to get the hard lines free.
Mini sell a kit with the two screws, funny mounting plate, and four orings you need. I think you also need to buy the two orings for the hard lines on the engine compartment side.
