The Dreaded P115c Code
 

Hey! I'm new to the Mini family, and about a month ago purchased a 2009 Mini Cooper S. After about 2 weeks, the check engine light came on and P115c was the code. Because I just purchased the car from BMW, I took it back. So far they have replaced the following items and the light still comes on: MAF, Air Filter, Valve Cover & Gasket, PCV Valve, and Carbon cleaning on the back of the intake valves. Any one else have this problem and any other solutions? Oh, they also replaced the thermostat even though it is not related because they found it was sticking

Clean your throttle body. It is the most common cause of that fault.

P115C Mass Air Volume Flow 'A' Too Low

Seen a lot of people have to clean the MAF with this code, but since they replaced yours that probably isn't the cause. I agree with above about the throttle body. They can swap it with another car to test, but there are a few threads where people were in your same spot and the dealer couldn't figure it out. Check out this thread HERE. Good luck!

double check all you ic piping! check for boost leaks! most of the time its s lose pipe or crack intake pipe!

Does anyone know if there is a recall on the TB. Having same issue

have you found any solution yet. I have the same code. And dont know what to do now.

CHECK TIMING!! definitely try a new TB if timing is fine. Doesn't hurt to make sure all your tubes aren't loose or leaking air.

I recently received the same code in a 2008 Hatchback S I purchased. But tis the first time. Before that was getting a lot of 141 hits on the O2 sensors. The claim was that aftermarket O2 sensors don't meet spec and I would have to pay twice as much for the factory O2 sensor. I finally gave in but now I am getting the 115C hit. Why are Aftermarket such a big issue with Minis?:impatient:

Just clean the throttle body. So simple. It's not the MAF, though cleaning that in the process is good too. I cleaned the throttle body and got allot goop out of it . And code hasn't returned .Beats the hell out of paying 300 for a new throttle body. Remove all the hoses and connected to the throttle body (far left side if the engine), it's located under the intake manifold. You don't have to remove the whole thing, you'll have enough room to get the spray in and open the throttle body flaps with your fingers, after removing the hoses around it. Clean it with a paper towel and your done .

If your throttle body was that bad! I could only wonder what th valves look like, When’s the last time you walnut blasted the valves ?

I haven't checked the valves out yet but thanks I'll look into it . Sorry if it sounded too extreme by "allot of goop" I'm talking about like two paper towel smudges . Think of it like if you're half way wipping your butt after pooping, there's still some left but your half way clean 😀

Thanks for the wisdom on this code. I did not know that the MAFS and the throttle body share the same (P115C) code. I replaced the MAFS before reading your comments and my light stayed out for about 35 miles and came back on. My car was running pretty well except my fuel consumption was a bit higher and the acceleration was kind of sluggish, but my idle was still steady and smooth. So, at this time I just kept driving my car with the light on until which time I had to smog it. At this point I removed the throttle body, examined it and it was pretty dirty inside the throttle tube so I cleaned it thoroughly and reinstalled it. I then turned my check engine light off and it has not come on again. I should of read your comments on this code before spending $ on new MAFS. It takes about two hours to remove and clean the throttle body. Thanks again.

Just came across this, I cleaned my throttle body also but... Some with bad throttle bodies. Also I have seen people with cracked intake manifold as this seems to be a problem with the older age of these gen 2 MINIs.
