Yep, swapped them with each other to be sure. After seeing the car has been involved in a minor accident if the only electrical issue I have is with this fan I'll consider myself lucky. Everything else works perfect.

Game plan, I'm tired of fighting faulty electronics already. I'd rather get this fixed sooner than later so I don't kill my car. I have an external resistor that should arrive today. I'm going to wire the resistor to a standard box relay from a keyed switch source. That should give me low speed only when key is on. And before anyone has a fit, yes that is temporary. I will be installing a temp switch as well so the fan only comes on once the car is up to temp.

My question is what is the temp for the low speed fan to come on? I'm thinking somewhere around 195 should be good?

Bought this resistor. Should work.

So here is my rough diagram of what I want to do. If I can find a wrecked mini and cut the male and female plugs from the fan I can make this all plug and play and not cut any wires on my car on either side of the plug, if not I'll cut it on the fan side so it's easily replaced.

I should mention the reason for the 2 relays is to keep the power from back feeding into the resistor if the high speed ever kicks on its own. Might be overkill though.

I might be overthinking this. Does the low speed relay still receive power when high speed kicks in? If so I'm ditching the second relay. I think I'll make my first setup a single relay to start and add a second if need be. I bought a double pack of resistors anyhow if one burns up.

One more try! Final schematic, one relay and everything on the fan side of the plug.

Going to use something like this to mount the temp switch, I'll put it where the burp valve thing is on the top hose so I don't have to actually cut any hoses to install it.
