Hi I've got a 07 mini cooper non turbo with the Cel on code p0014 - ex cam pos advanced. I've tried replace the vanos solenoid and even swap side to side same code keeps returni
ng. I've removed the valve cover and noticed quite a lot of varnish and sludge. Wondering if this has anything to do with the problem. No rattle noises evident.
P0014 - 'B' Camshaft Position Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1) and some more good info here.
Ran across this thread here and here. Most of what I found was the VANOS and cam position sensors. More solved with VANOS cleaning than the cam sensor replacement, but the last thread I posted ended up being timing chain skipping. Hope some of this helps you a little while you chase down the issue. Good luck.
