Hi,

I just bought a 2002 Cooper S and it's got the airbag warning light on. I bought the Creator C110, and read and cleared the codes. It lasted about 3 days, and now the light came back on.

The codes that were read are:

05 Side airbag, front left
04 Airbag, Passenger, stage 1

I've read probably 30 forums threads trying to find these errors, and what the solution might be, without much luck. The best I can tell is that it might be the wire connectors under the passenger seat, but I'm not sure how the passenger seat would generate the 05 code which I assume "front left" means drivers side?

Anyone have any insight, or suggestions? I also read there was a wiring harness replacement kit, but not sure where I can find that if that is what I need.

I know very little about the airbag system in the Mini but I would suspect that "passenger side" might be the left hand side given that the Mini is British. I doubt the airbag program is rewritten for the left hand drive model.

Just a thought.

 

Do a search for gen 1 airbag recall notice. The recall campaign is No. 15V-205 'Front Passenger Seat Occupant Detection Mat Sensor'. I got mine notice in the mail a couple of months ago. Go to MINIUSA.com to register you VIN. The recall will take quite a bit of time as parts are slow in arriving.

R53's made before 2005 don't have that occupancy mat, so that new recall doesn't affect them.

Regarding the Left\Passenger, I'm not sure. It looks like the driver side harness has been worked on before, Passenger side looks stock. I'm going to take it into a local shop this week to see what they say.
