A/C issue only under load
A/C issue only under load
Hi guys,
Needing some help here. My 2010 Clubman S is having a bizarre A/C issue. When the car is in neutral (regardless of engine RPM- high or LOW) or you remove your foot off the accelerator and coast, the A/C will blow ice cold. As soon as you press down on the accelerator, you can hear the A/C clutch disengage.
I'm new to Minis, but have worked in Ford service for years. I verified the refrigerant levels were all good and that were no leaks. Took it to the Mini dealer thinking it MUST be something electrical in the control head or maybe the Mini equivalent to the WOT switch that shuts off the compressor to give the car power under wide open throttle.
Dealer has had my car two days, and comes back with that since they've ruled out a cooling fan issue and leak in refrigerant, then it must be an internal failure with the compressor.
This makes no sense to me, as a failing compressor in any car usually would struggle at low RPMs and would be able to blow cold when spinning faster at HIGHER RPMs, which is the exact OPPOSITE of what this is doing. Being that a compressor is no cheap option, I asked to speak to the technician for some explanation for this, and he basically said that they had tested the control head and functions, there were no codes, so even though it baffled them too, it must be a compressor failure.
I'm not down to fire the parts cannon on a $1000+ compressor job to hope it fixes the issue. Anyone experience anything like this? Or, can anyone explain how these cars shut off for WOT and what commands that?
Thanks so much!
