2003 Dash lights, Odometer and Info center

I am a new Mini owner. I bought a 2003 a few weeks ago and it seems to be having a few electrical problems. I tried searching for the answers with no luck. I could possibly be searching using the wrong terminology.

A few days after I bought the car I went to take it for a drive and upon starting the car all the lights in the speedo and tach were on and the odometer was reading in kms. The car runs and drives great with no loss of power. I have checked the oil and other fluids just to make sure nothing was low. If only 1 or 2 lights were on I would be worried but with all the lights coming on at once I feel there is an electrical issue.

Today I drove the car to town and shut it off, when I restarted the car 5 minutes later the info center was blank. I could not get it to turn back on.

Are any of these problems common with Mini's? At the time I bought the car I was unaware that it did have a rebuilt title. After searching it does show previous water damage. I know this could cause electrical issues. I have always been into diesel trucks and Jeeps. This is my first "fun" car. I am hoping these issues are nothing major.

As far as I know the only upgrades to the car is an Alta exhaust and air box, an underdrive pully on the supercharger, and some kind of device that makes the car feel like it has a throttle cable instead of drive by wire, I'm sorry I can't think of the name of it. Shows my lack of knowledge on the Mini.

Thanks for any help or direction you can give.

Battery. These cars act very strange when the battery is going bad with all kinds of lights flashing. Even if it tests good, if it is over 3 years old I would replace it. Just my 2 cents.

Battery and Alternator first and if you have a sunroof , check for water that leak down the drain tubes or overflows into the footwell module. That controls the lighting and some dashboard functions.

Good luck.
