My mini went tick tick boom

I was casually driving around and my mini made a noise that sounded like tick tick tick tick when I accelerated. Finally my car jolted forward then went tick tick BOOM! I saw white smoke from under the hood and fluid came pouring out of the right front of the car and the car wouldnt shift at all, until the wheels were spun by the tow truck.

Just had my cables for shifting replaced and the clutch fixed not even 1000 miles ago.

So sorry to hear about your catastrophic failure.

White smoke = burning coolant (if it was coming from the exhaust). What colour was the fluid that came out?

Whatever the case, unfortunately, you're in for a costly adventure.

I'm not a 2nd gen guy so I'm not going to speak to the specifics of the failure, but having replaced an engine (twice) I feel your pain and have gone through it as well.

Try to keep your chin up, and remember all the happy motoring that lies ahead once it's all fixed.

Good luck

What year car?
You have similar threads in gen1 and gen2 posted a couple hours apart...
Very different cars with different issues...
But sounds like a motor in either case....just a guess!!

It is an 04 Mini Cooper 5 speed manual

Posted in wrong forum :(, if this can help at all my tranny has always made a slight grinding noise when accelerating and then started making the ticking but it came and gone. When it went to **** in the middle of the road the tires wouldnt move, but after some forceful dragging by a tow truck I heard a clunk noise and the magically it started to move again. Started it this morning, was going to give it a spin but im going to replace the fluids first, I have a feeling the place I had put in the tranny oil didnt use the oil that was recommended by the manual (Even if its more expensive, it works the best). When I was trying to push it out of the road with a friend, the shifter was locked but after the clunk it was free again. Smelt burnt all around my car.

If this can help at all the noise would go away and come back, also when it was freezing cold outside, my car ran like magic but when it began to heat up, it went noisy on me.

Sounds like the tranny....sorry to hear it...but sounds like it gave lots of warnings...cheaper than a motor...bet the oil was gear oil you saw...hopefully it did not cause other issues when it went...sometimes driving a car till "it does not go" is $$$.
I would not waste $ trying to change the fluids...when it locks up..its done.... And if the oil got out...there is extensive physical damage to the case, maybe more.....

sounds like an input shaft decided to cannibalize everything else in the tranny
