R56 2007 S camshaft removal

I'm planning to have the cylinder resurfaced. I want to remove the cam shafts and from what I've read you have to be careful you don't bend the cams on removal. The camshaft removal tools I've seen for sale at $400 seems a bit steep.
Can anybody give me advice
Thanks

I think you'll find not a lot of people have experience pulling apart the r56 motors. Not a lot of people delving that deep into the motors since cam swaps aren't popular mods. I wasn't aware of a special procedure for pulling the camshafts. There is one with a special tool involved in setting engine timing. If you don't have a Bentley manual then you should go ahead and get one. You'll need it for torque specs anyways and it'll explain how to remove the camshafts.

Also, this is in the F56 section, you might want to repost in the R56 section where more people are likely to see it and be able to offer any advice.

Why are you planning on resurfacing the head? As for the camshafts, which tools are you referring to, the ones to lock down the engine for timing purposes?

As far as the actual removal of the cams, once you have the cam caps off, they should easily "pop" out of the journals. If they don't, then a small amount of force with a plaste tool should get them off.

If you were not aware, all the valvetrain bolts should be replaced, not just the head bolts.

Good luck!
