Low Speed Fan Relay bad?

Hello, I am having the ubiquitous low speed fan issue. At the connector in the engine bay, I put a jumper between the two positive wires. My hope was that when the low speed relay called for the fan, it would jump over to the high side stage, until I can get the fan or resistor replaced.

But with this arrangement the high speed still only comes on when the car gets REALLY hot. Does this mean the low speed relay is not sending a signal? Is there a way to test that?

Yes.
All the relays are identical, so you can switch them and see what happens.
However, my opinion is that the relays are fine, but you made some error when jumping low speed.

Okay, Basically all i did was separate the connector harness and wrapped a 20 ga solid wire around the two pins figure 8 style and crimped with needle nose before reassembling. I'll put a continuity tester between the pins, maybe my connection sucks. Then I'll test the relays, thank you

Yes the low speed on the fan is pretty common failure.

We sell the low speed resistor as an individual part since it fails so often.

Turns out the 30A fuse for the low speed was blown. I didn't realize at first that it had its own fuse. Replacing it got the relay to work again, but the resistor is still open circuit, but at least so was able to jump the high speed until I get around to doing a more thorough repair.

Why sell this one rather than he Dorman one which looks much beefier? What is your experience with the Dorman one?

Thanks in advance.
