2005 Mini R50 Early Transmission Failure

I have owned my 2005 Mini Cooper for less than a month now and my transmission failed at 67k is this prevalent among mini coopers? I brought it to a repair shop for Mini and BMW and they want 3600 to swap out my old broken transmission for a rebuilt one which is more than half what my car is worth (KBB). I was thinking about buying a used transmission and having it put in, would this be a smart cost effective move or should I cough up the 3600 to get it replaced.

CVT (automatic tranny)?
Very common if it was a CVT...many failures...and a class action lawsuit settled by mini....most cars get junked if CVT due to $$$....it will happen again...regular fluid changes help...
If it is a 5 speed...
Failures are rare on the 2005+ cars....
The 2002-2004 "Midlands" 5 speed was failure prone....
But the getrag in the 2005+ cars is pretty solid...
Might want to try to find a used 5 speed it it did fail....

It is a 5 spd manual. And that is why I am mind boggled as to why it went at such a low mileage. I am skeptical about getting a used transmission but with the cost of repairing it with a rebuilt one I will give it a try, thanks!

What's the issue that it's a failed tranny? Have you had a second opinion?

I'm guessing it might have run low on oil or been abused....many folks learn on a mini since so few folks have driven stick before....if the clutch is not the factory one from 2005, I would bet 100% this is the case...

Have not seen too many issues with the 2005+ 5 speed getrag, have 230,000+ miles on one now and runs great. Every so often just replace the fluid to redline oil . Its the clutch and throw out bearing that usually fails , not the internals. Might have been very abused or run low on oil .

Here is what a new MINI Factory reman looks like.

7/2004+ Cooper ( Non S ) 5 speed transmission getrag
