R53 multiple/random misfire code
R53 multiple/random misfire code
I have a 2005 R53, 90 K miles. I was recently accelerating hard on an onramp and felt a sudden loss of power and the check engine light came on immediately. Code reader just gives me "P0300." Car seems to drive fine now with normal acceleration/ idle. Any thoughts given this context? I was leaning towards supercharger connection given the heavy acceleration. Also, when I try to erase with my code reader "AGT MT-50" from Amazon it says "erase fail."
There's a lot of variables that we're missing. Unfortunately the "random cylinder misfire code" kinda leaves a grey area when it comes to diagnosis.
-Are you running at least 91 octane?
-Last time the plugs were changed?
-Any performance mods?
-Have you had any work done recently that could have contributed to it?
-How do the electrode prongs on the coil pack look, are they rusty/dirty?
Fill us in a little bit more on the car, and we can better provide help.
Thanks,
Nick

Updated to note that I was able to clear code. Hasn't recurred yet. Would I harm anything by driving a bit. If something is up it should pop back on, right?
More info:
-Don't know last spark plug change (just purchased 2 months ago). Assume never?!
-No mods
-using highest octane I can get: 91

The car will go to limp mode before any real damage can be done, at which point you should shut the car off, and have it professionally repaired.
The MINI's run on the richer side, so at 90K miles I would say replacing the plugs won't hurt your situation.
Here's a link to the plugs I would recommend on our website:

You might benefit from finding a local Euro/MINI specialist and having them do a full inspection, it will open you up to any issues you may have or will have.

Check everything in this order, spark plugs, spark wires, coil, fuel injectors, if there's still a problem try to check if any of ur wires are cracked or are connected correctly and if there's still a problem do a smoke test...
I recently had a misfire and after replacing all of those thing in ended up being an intake manifold gasket.

check the coil pack terminal closest to firewall on drivers side....when you are done cleaning it off with a green scrounge ( never use anything too abrasive ) then get new wires.
