Bad pressure plate symptoms
Bad pressure plate symptoms
Has anyone suffered a flattened or collapsed pressure plate? What were the symptoms? I took my R53 JCW to a reputable local shop and they think I have this problem. The estimate to R/R the clutch/pressure plate is $2500 so I'm wondering if they're just shooting in the dark. They're not especially experienced in MINI's but do work on BMW's and all other European cars.
THanks,
Scott

The pressure plate & usually the throw out bearing over a long long time wears into the fingers of the pressure plate, you will sometimes here the rattle of the throw out bearing on the fingers. Have not seen to many collapsed. they will have to pull it to see whats going on in there. Hope the fork is not split or something internal, near the clutch plate.

You can do a Dual mass to single mass conversion from Valeo. Saves you money on the dual mass flywheel.

$2500 sound like OEM parts and an east coast labor rate.....
Even in the $$ northeast us, $2000 ballpark is more common for a full clutch job....maybe they have a few extra hours in the price to pay for learning on your car....

I've seen quotes of $850 - $1200 around here for the labor portion.
Add 300 parts for an oem clutch/pressure plate, or, if you need a new flywheel . . .
$400 parts for valeo conversion including clutch, pp, and flywheel or
$1000 parts for oem clutch, pp, and dual mass flywheel.
That totals up to between $1150 and $2200 depending on what exactly is done and where.

So back to my original question, what are the symptoms of a collapsed or flat pressure plate?
