Is there a cheap fix for the oil filter housing?

I have a 2002 MINI Cooper S model it's one of the early versions so the oil fillter housing had the inner fillter carriage. Thanks to the guys who changed my oil it's now located at the local landfill. AWESOME :\

I know later on in 2002 they modified it to where you no longer had the issue with that happening. Now that mine is missing my oil pressure light keeps flickering due to the oil filter not getting a good seal. The dealership told me in order to fix the problem I have to replace the enitre housing! I have done some looking and I have found the cap for the new modified oil filter housing.

My question is could you buy the cap and fix the issue or is there another way to fix it? The housing itself is around $260.00 so you can see my hopes of something else working.

Thanks for any help you can give! And remember WAVE DAMMIT!!!!

So I was just doing some other research:

Beginning with the 07/2004 production, they changed the filter specification and a plastic 'cage' was built into the filter itself, eliminating the need for the cage in the cannister cover
That being said could I get a cap for an 2004-2006 MINI and filter also? Seems like that would be a pretty simply fix?????

Nope...entire housing must be changed.....just changing the cap will not fix it...
And the " cage" might have been cooper only...not 100% sure though...
Your issue might be the bypass valve (also part of the housing).....
