Observations when replacing the serpentine belt

Just replaced my serpentine belt (and mechanical belt tensioner) while I had things torn down for intake cleaning. Here are some of my observations.

- don't compress the tensioner from the bottom even if you have a pickle fork. Trust me on this. I have a sheered off tensioner as a reminder it is not a good idea. While you may get it to work without breaking anything, don't risk it. Instead do the following:
* remove passenger side bolts and pull lock carrier aside. If it helps you can remove the whole thing. Your goal is just to move the charge air pipe to the right a few mm and the lock carrier is in the way of doing this.
* loosen the top hose clamp for the charge air pipe and remove it from top hose connection.
* once you can move it push it aside a few mm and then get a 12 point 30mm wrench on the fulcrum bolt on the tensioner. You just need to turn it a little clockwise while with the other hand pushing in the lock pin. Once that pin goes in let up on the wrench.

- remember to release the friction wheel by pulling out and down on the tab connected to it close to your alternator.

- put the new belt over the crank pulley and in between the friction wheel first. Next do the alternator and finally around the ac compressor pulley.

- get out that 30mm wrench again and crank the fulcrum bolt on the tensioner clockwise until the pin pops out, then gently let off on wrench and the pulley will be tensioned.

- in total you need to remove something like five plastic clips from the fender liner as well as the covers over headlights and signals so you can peel back the liner and see the belt.

All in all this should take less than an hour. On a another note if you sheer your mechanical belt tensioner off of the alternator like I did you don't have to remove much more to put a new one in. You just have to move the charge air pipe for clearance to the E10 bolts due to their length.

If you have to replace you belt and have any questions at all, let me know.
