R56 Sun Roof

Yesterday, I vented my OEM dual sunroof. The front sun roof vented fine, but the rear sun roof only vented on the drivers side. the passenger side did not lift. so, when viewed from behind, the rear sun roof was high on the left and flush with the roof on the right.

Likewise, when I try to open the roof completely, the front slides back to about 3/4 open, then automatically starts closing.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I would inspect the cables , sounds like the rear amature is stuck or broken. It lifts the rear sunroof up at a tilt. Get some perpetrating fluid oil and spray where the rear pivots up on the arm ( between those roof and glass seals on that track ) , you can see on the other side ( high side ) that pivot points about half way back on the rail right near the glass. Also if it sound or looks like its going to bind, damage the glass , try to keep opening it to a minimal. Otherwise you might damage the whole assembly.

In order to inspect the cables, does the roof glass need to be removed. I don't know how else I can inspect them. If so, how is the glass removed?

I took it to a shop today. They told me a cable in the roof broke and the only ways to fix is to replace the entire sun roof! Can this be possible!?

Sorry I missed your last post. Yea the cables are not a separate part. They looks to come in the new frame part so you don't have to whole unit with the glass. Did the cable snap?

#1 above without the glass. 54102758294
